- While travelling around the Western US and Canada climbing and biking with my boyfriend (now husband), I desperately needed a haircut. I new I couldn't reach all the angles. I begged him to cut my hair for me--with the scissors on his Leatherman. He refused. I begged aagin and he refused. I got out the bottle of Tequila. After a few shots he agreed. He did a great job and continued trimming my hair over the next year.
- For women who want to cut their hair easily, I have another technique. You don't even need a mirror. It works for a long layered style and its been pretty efficient for my thick, slightly wavy hair.
What you want to do is brush your hair with your head almost upside down, bending over and looking at your feet standing up. That way the hair nearer your neck ends up on top. And you can see all the ends. Take a pair of scissors and cut your hair straight, so that it all hangs at an equal distance from your face. You do that with the scissors parallel to your hair, not perpendicular, that way there's no "scissor marks". Shake your head and you're done. With practice, it takes me about 5 minutes.
I've always had good comments on my hair, and I can't tell you how much I've saved, because I've never been to the hairdresser, ever. Last tip: optimally you don't want to be drunk or really angry when you cut your own hair.
Enjoy
